The Island will be celebrating the 80th Anniversary of V E Day on the 5th and 8th of May.

Barbara Benfield and her helpers will be hosting a Tea Party in the Island Hall Gardens from 2pm to 3.30pm on Monday the 5th of May. Entertainment will be provided by the Island Band, led by Neil Burton. Everybody is welcome to attend.

On Thursday 8th of May we will light a Beacon on the Butes at 8.30pm. The Island Band will be playing a selection of pieces from 7.50p.m. They will be joined by the Alderney Voices Choir and the Bee Minors at 8.15p.m. who will accompany members of the community in singing “I vow to thee my Country”, which will also be sung across the U.K. The words will be available on the night.

This is a momentous day in the history of Western Europe and I would encourage as many of the community as are able to attend the short ceremony.

This victory allowed preparations to be put in place for the Homecomers’ return in December
1945, the 80th Anniversary of which we will celebrate on the 15th of December this year.
